I teach 4th-grade reading at White Plains Elementary School.  I also coach robotics to 3rd and 4th-graders.  I have been teaching in a regular education classroom since 2010.  I first taught 1st-grade and then 4th-grade. Previous to a regular education classroom I taught art for five years.  I look forward to using my master’s in Instructional Technology to enhance the lessons that I teach.  I view technology as the future and as a great way to bring additional excitement and enthusiasm to the classroom.  I want to be able to use technology in creative new ways.

Module 4 - Poll Everywhere

Poll Everywhere is so quick and easy to use.  I can see using it to get feedback about students preconceived perceptions about a topic before a lesson.  It would work to have a quick informal and open ended  question at the beginning of class and then to have a quick multiple choice exit slip at the end of class.  I really like that the results can be embedded into a Google slide presentation. This includes students in the process of assessing their understanding.

When signing in to take the poll click the “Skip for now” link.  It will then ask you for your name.

Module 5 - QR Codes

This is a link to open educational resources – the OER Commons website.  This is an online tool for educators that is easily searchable.  An educator can find numerous resources to match curriculum standards. The filter options make it easy to pinpoint resources in the format most effective for your classroom.

This is a link to the website Be Internet Awesome hosted by Google.  It is a useful resource for teachers, students, and parents.  It has easy to follow tips, articles, interactive information, and games to teach internet safety and effective use.

This is a link to the PBS Learning Media website.  This website provides searchable resources for teachers.  It is easy to navigate by subject and grade level and has a wide variety of media resources: documents, videos, interactive content, and games. It also provides access to students and families.

QR codes provide so many quick and easy options for sharing information. We have Chromebooks in our classrooms and I just realized students can use their Chromebooks to scan QR codes.  I think it would be great to create a digital scavenger based game where they could travel around the room  in small groups.  The QR codes could easily be printed and laminated to be used from year to year as long as the links were checked for operation.  Previously we used the QR Code Generator for teacher information on orientation night.  I would like to expand on that and showcase students’ work during open house which usually takes place in October.

I notice in my personal space there are numerous mechanical devices that have QR codes that provide instructions for use.  This would be a great application in the classroom at small group stations to post reminders and expectations.
